This senior position is a critical role on the Web Product Management Team, reporting to the Director, Web Product Management. This person will be responsible for leading and driving the strategic UI and design future of Autodesk’s global web properties and influence across the company to integrate this design strategy with product and brand design schemas. The Director is responsible for driving user research, investigating emerging engagement technologies, and incorporating design innovations to deliver a rich, intuitive and engaging experience for visitors to Autodesk’s corporate sites.

In this critical leadership role, the Director will provide broad user experience strategy, visual and interaction design leadership, and user-centered design methodologies to deliver measurable satisfaction and performance improvements across the portfolio of web and mobile sites. This position is responsible for working with product management, product development, marketing, analytics, sales and support to identify user needs and business objectives, which will be satisfied online. Operationally, the Director will be solely responsible for leading a team of design and UI professionals in delivering the next generation of the company’s global sites, and influence and interact directly with key stakeholders and decisions makers at the executive level to drive the strategy forward.

This leader will also work directly with other UX leaders in the company to develop a singular and consistent online experience between products and the web. As Cloud offerings become more of the norm, the Director will be required to collaborate closely with members of the product team to insure a seamless experience across platforms. Additionally, he/she will sit on the CX core team which, is responsible for developing and executing strategies to insure consistency across all customer touch points.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy and roadmap to evolve Autodesk’s online experience to deliver better engagement
  • Build visibility and credibility with key executive stakeholders to facilitate strategy endorsement and buy-in
  • Deliver world-class design and usability to Autodesk’s web and mobile sites
  • Define, update and improve Autodesk’s user satisfaction metrics, and drive for improvement in those metrics
  • Drive consolidation of multiple design approaches and technologies, ensuring the company reduces redundancy and gets to fewer, deeper pools of knowledge across all the teams developing Autodesk’s applications and websites
  • Manage teams, including recruitment, contracting, coaching, and providing forthright performance feedback
  • Define and lead usability research
  • Collaborate with other UX teams at the Director level to ensure alignment and consistency, and develop and maintain relationships that foster extensive cross-functional collaboration
  • Manage a team of UX and design professionals, providing coaching and support, review of deliverables, performance management and facilitating professional development opportunities
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and technologies and perform competitive analyses to identify new opportunities for expanding Autodesk’s web initiatives to serve the company’s goals.
  • Improve effectiveness and quality of teams through process improvement, mentoring, and hiring
  • Partner with the Brand Communications team to support the Corporate Brand Strategy and ensure consistent alignment and use of brand elements across Autodesk’s web properties

Requirements

  • 10+ years of significant track record in defining and delivering great online user experiences for web and mobile sites and web applications
  • Broad leadership in web user experience across multiple companies and industries
  • Experience managing teams of UX and UI designers
  • Master’s Degree in Human Factors, HCI, or related field
  • UX Leadership and background in Social Media, E-commerce, mobile web, and SaaS applications
  • Experience with sites that have implemented personalization and dynamic user experiences
  • Experience working with web applications and systems that deliver dynamic content
  • Extensive command of user experience methods, design principles, problem-framing skills
  • Familiarity with wire-framing and prototyping tools, paired with solid understanding of the interaction potential of IxD, Visual Design, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Ajax
  • Deep understanding of how prototyping and customer research meet complex and varied requirements within tight development windows
  • Demonstrated ability to paint a UX vision, inspiring others to get behind that vision, and success driving change in a matrixed environment
  • Strong leadership skills – the ability to identify, hire, develop, and retain the most talented people while inspiring them to high performance
  • A strong and demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team, as well as work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Methodical and pragmatic problem-solving skills which inspire confidence and trust with internal customers and staff; strong collaboration ability
  • Out-of-the-box thinker who can challenge the status quo while setting and achieving goals
