THE COMPANY

Bounty Hunter, Fine Wine & Spirits was founded in 1994 and since its inception the Bounty Hunter brand has been synonymous with consumer engagement. Serious and impassioned about the world of wine and spirits, Bounty Hunter seeks to provide its customers an insider’s seat at the table. The Bounty Hunter offers “luxury goods with blue jeans style” and a measure of fun and entertainment. The company makes available an impressive portfolio of hard to find and highly allocated wines and spirits of uncompromising quality from around the world. The team seeks out the very best and tastes over 5000 wines and 1500 spirits each year rejecting 90%. The company works diligently to nurture and maintain its long standing relationships with the key vintners and spirits producers whose brands are marketed and sold to the devoted customer base. The well-curated portfolio offers broad choice at a variety of price points.

The Bounty Hunter is comprised of a diverse group of businesses units including its iconic direct mail catalogue, website, as well as its bar, restaurant and retail operation – Bounty Hunter Wine Bar, Smokin’ BBQ & Retail Shop. Through these avenues the company has created lasting relationships with hundreds of thousands of aficionados. These authentic and valued relationships are a cornerstone of the Bounty Hunter’s success and longevity. The company is rooted in its direct connection with consumers for whom the Bounty Hunter has consistently been a trusted (and often irreverent) guide and resource for the discovery and access to superlative, hard to find wine and spirits. The company watchwords integrity, trust and quality are evident in all aspects of the business.

More than 2 million copies of the Bounty Hunter catalogue are sent out in the spring and fall. It showcases more than 200 wines and spirits with catchy narratives and hard to find offerings resulting in year over year favorable sales results. In Napa Valley, the Bounty Hunter’s brick and mortar wine bar, restaurant and retail shop offers an astounding line up of over 400 wines on the shelves for purchase with 40 wines and 40 American whiskeys available by the glass as well as artisan beers on tap. Consumers are also able to participate in a number of popular wine clubs offered by the Bounty Hunter. Through the multiple channels of distribution, the Bounty Hunter’s unique personality and ethos of fun and approachability garners a loyal following with a strong emotional connection.

The Bounty Hunter is also a negociant and wine producer, blending or making a series of small lot wines. The “Wines We Make” portfolio of wines are crafted by consulting winemaker Tim Milos whose pedigree includes experience at Stags’ Leap Wine Cellars, Opus Wine and S. Anderson Vineyard. The Bounty Hunter wines take advantage of fruit or juice sourced from enviable producers and vineyards. The portfolio offers a selection of wines from everyday drinking to ultra luxury. The Justice series wines, utilizing fruit from two historic Beckstoffer vineyards, have received favorable recognition and notable scores from key critical audiences including Robert Parker, The Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

The Bounty Hunter additionally owns and operates a wine marketing services business Chatterbox. Recognizing the value of the Bounty Hunter’s own long standing direct relationship and marketing expertise, Chatterbox Wine Marketing was founded in 2009 to offer an additional sales channel to wineries through consumer direct marketing services. The company serves an expanding list of well-known established and up-and-coming wineries. Its services include email marketing, telesales, data evaluation and cleanup, and mobile optimization of websites. This role requires a seasoned executive, knowledgeable and passionate about the wine business, with a clear strategic voice and perspective to expand the business to the next level.

The Bounty Hunter is the creation of Mark Pope; its dynamic founder and leader who has been actively involved in all aspects of the business since inception. Together with an outstanding operational team, many of whom have long tenures, Mark built the company from humble beginnings with tenacity, laser focus on quality and relationship building, and clear brand messaging. In early 2014 Mark sold the business to entrepreneur and international vintner Alejandro Buhlgeroni who could see the extraordinary potential for national and global growth and expansion of the Bounty Hunter brand. It is a strong professional team and day- to-day operations are ably handled freeing the CEO to focus on strategic imperatives across all platforms including enhancing and growing digital, ecommerce and social media capabilities in addition to driving the restaurant initiative.
